Sanitizing to Prevent Salmonella?
October 05, 2020 Leave a Comment
Salmonella is a food-related illness that typically comes from raw or undercooked meat, raw fruits and vegetables, eggs, and dairy products. Salmonella can be carried by people and animals in their intestines and their feces. In most cases where someone has "food poisoning," we're talking about salmonella illness. The official name for this is Illness salmonellosis. It's extremely common.
The CDC salmonella index indicates there are 1 million foodborne illnesses every year in the United States caused by salmonella poisoning. The illness can last for several days and can be very uncomfortable, causing an upset stomach, diarrhea, severe cramps, and fever. It's difficult to detect the bacteria that causes the illness because you can't see it or smell it.
The misconception about salmonella is that you can only get it by eating foods that contain the bacteria. This isn't true. You can get it from eating foods that contain the bacteria in your home or a public restaurant, but the bacteria can also be found on surfaces that have come into contact with contaminated food. The CDC also states that "Salmonella is spread by the fecal-oral route and can be transmitted by food and water, by direct animal contact, and, in rare instances, person-to-person, with an estimated 94% of salmonellosis being transmitted by contaminated food. Cross-contamination can occur through, environmental contamination or by the unwashed hands of food workers. The salmonella germs can last on surfaces anywhere between four hours and four days.
The precautions regarding salmonella germs are similar to those for any germs and bacteria. A consistent and effective cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting routine are key in preventing the spread. Also, proper handwashing after handling any raw foods and then proper clean-up of all areas where food is prepared. This applies not only to commercial restaurants and food-service related facilities but to homes too. All the experts agree that sanitizing and disinfecting these areas thoroughly will help reduce widespread cross-contamination.
GenEon Leads the Way in Safe Cleaners, Effective Cleaning Solutions
At GenEon, helping consumers effectively and safely clean, sanitize and disinfect the places where we live, work, and play has always been our goal. Our safe cleaners and non-toxic sanitizers and disinfectants are made with a process known as electrochemical activation (ECA). This process uses nothing more than natural minerals, water, and electricity to produce cleaners, sanitizers, and disinfectants with 80-200 times the sanitizing power of chlorine bleach. You get powerful results using products that won't harm people or the environment. Dwell time is crucial to disinfecting, of course, and most chemical disinfectants require that a surface be kept wet for 10 minutes. ECA's disinfectant will kill most bacteria in seconds, including nasty ones like E.coli, MRSA and norovirus. ECA leaves no chemical residue, emits little to no fumes or VOCs, and has no fragrances that can be harmful to you.
GenEon also offers advanced systems for equal and effective distribution of our cleaners, sanitizers, and disinfectants. Our
Mist or bMist Pro are ideal for cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting large, open spaces or those areas that are normally hard-to-reach and often overlooked. The Mist lets you clean and disinfect anywhere without the need for direct surface contact or harmful chemicals. There's no better way to get an attainable and sustainable solution for any organization where health and public safety from germs and bacteria is a concern. Our products are made using a technology called on-site generation, which means you make your cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting products as you need them, right in your facility. This eliminates waste and results in savings in the yearly cost of maintenance. It also eliminates the need to keep potentially harmful chemical-based sanitizing and disinfecting products in your facility.
Safety to people, animals, the environment has always been at the forefront of everything we do at GenEon. As the country begins to reopen after the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to put even more emphasis on health and safety. We understand that all of you are going to be even more concerned with cleanliness and safety going forward. GenEon wants to be a part of helping you ease back into a world beyond the pandemic.
Together, ECA and OSG are a winning combination when it comes to green cleaning and sustainability. From a sustainability standpoint, this combination is unrivaled, even when compared to third party-certified green chemicals. On-Site Generation means no extraction of raw materials, no manufacturing, no transportation of the product, and reduced waste. This adds up to a huge reduction in your carbon footprint. As more investors and consumers look for businesses that take sustainability seriously, ECA and OSG are an especially winning combination.
GenEon is ideal for homes, restaurants, offices, medical facilities, long-term care facilities, rental properties, schools and daycares, and everywhere it's important to keep a healthy environment.
