EmptyThe last thing any school wants to have to deal with is absenteeism, and that goes for teachers as well as students. Schools are places where children should bring home knowledge and valuable experiences, not germs and sicknesses. To ensure the ideal type of learning environment, schools should focus on both not having sicknesses spread within them and on positively affecting the health of students. To do this, there are three things that schools can focus on.

Be Toxin FreeCleaning is an important part of maintaining a healthy learning environment but, you have to be mindful of how you rid your school of germs. Many cleaning products can be harmful to your staff and students if used improperly. It is best to use toxin free and products with low to no VOCs whenever possible to reduce exposure of harsh chemicals for everyone in your school.

Be SustainableA sustainable environment is one that uses resources as efficiently as possible and produces minimal waste. Sustainability goes hand in hand with preventing sickness as it strives to reduce harmful, germ ridden waste and the consumption of environmentally toxic chemicals.

Sustainability goes beyond Green. In your school, this can be done through two very important things. Firstly, being sustainable can involve having students take part in "sustainable" activities first hand.

Be Proactive about Health EducationTeaching students about all aspects of living healthy lifestyles on a regular basis will translate directly to a healthier school environment. If students are able to live and practice what they are taught every day it will translate directly to a healthier environment. Teach and engage students with these topics and the health of your school will reflect that commitment, but, make sure the areas where they eat, work and play are cleaned and sanitized regularly with toxic free products!
